Walking

Miles of walks are literally right on the doorstep – from short walks to the pub or village or whole day walks linking in with the surrounding Southdowns National Park. Anna & James are happy to advise you. There is also a comprehensive file of walking routes in each hut.


Rowlands Castle (1 Mile)

Within 10 minutes walk are the local pubs of The George in Finchdean, The Robinhood, The Fountain and The Castle in the village of Rowlands Castle. Also in the village is a café and local convenience store.


Cycling

Bring you own road or mountain bike and keep it in our locked secure shed. Or hire electric mountain bikes – this can be arranged by Anna & James, this way everyone can keep up and you can cover more miles.


Sailing, Windsurfing or Surfing

Lessons can be prearranged with a qualified RYA instructor.


Paddle boarding hire

Can be pre-arranged (Subject to availability)


Emsworth

Just 10 minute’s drive away and hosts a number of boutique shops, pubs, cafes and a delicious ice cream shop on the fishing quay.


Beaches

The unspoilt sandy beaches of the Witterings are just 40 mins away. Or Hayling Island just 30 minutes away for a seaside island with long pebble beaches. If you don’t want to drive catch the train from the village to Portsmouth and then the ferry or hovercraft over to the Isle of Wight for the day.


Lordington Lavender (6.5 Miles)

For a couple of weeks in July, just 10 minutes drive or a cycle ride away, this field of lavender is just gorgeous.


Butser Ancient Farm (4.2 Miles)

Archaeological open-air museum featuring reconstructions of pre historic, Romano-British and Anglo-Saxon buildings.


West Sussex Falconry (4 Miles)

A large selection of birds of prey, including Hawks, Owls and Falcons


Stansted House (2.5 miles)

A stroll away -enjoy homemade cakes and tea, light lunches, a farm shop and garden centre.


Uppark National Trust House and Grounds (5.8 Miles)

17th century, grade 1 listed House – the ultimate tranquil and intimate house and garden.


Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

20 minutes by train, includes The Mary Rose, King Henry VIII’s favourite ship, sank in battle in 1545 and raised from the waters just outside the Dockyard in 1982.

Visit HMS Victory, Nelson’s legendary warship, dive deep onboard HMS Alliance or take a Harbour Tour and discover a working naval base from the water. Britain’s top National Museum for naval and maritime heritage.

Experience traditional boatbuilding techniques at Boathouse 4 or learn the history of Royal Navy armaments at Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower. Step aboard HMS Warrior, the pride of Queen Victoria’s fleet and compare her iron-hull with the steel hull of the only surviving ship from the First World War Gallipoli Campaign, M.33.


Gunwharf Quays Shopping & Spinnaker Tower – 10 mins walk from the historic dockyard.

Next to the Historic Dockyard, Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth is 20 mins by train. It is a beautiful quay developed with shops and restaurants, bowling alley and cinema. The spinnaker tower is 170m landmark observation tower – walk on the glass floor if you dare!


Goodwood Race Course and Motor Racing

Only 40 mins drive away, enjoy the Festival of Speed, Glorious Goodwood, Three Fridays in June, Goodwood Revival and many more events.


Royal Armouries Fort Nelson (11 miles)

Restored Victorian fortress housing a big gun collection and displays tracing artillery development.


Portchester Castle (12 miles)

Portchester Castle is a medieval fortress that was developed within the walls of the Roman Saxon Shore fort of Portus Adurn.


Historic Chichester (11 miles)

A cathedral city in West Sussex. It has a long history as a settlement from Roman times and was important in Anglo-Saxon times. Now it is a thriving centre with pedestrian area for shopping, restaurants, markets and cafes.
